CHALLENGE!
Element 1: Choose an author to mimic and what element(s) of their writing you want to mimic in your story. Your author can be anyone: book author, fanfic author, FFM author (of any year), etc. What you mimic can be anything about your chosen author’s writing style: their unique story form/pacing/organization, preferred genre and setting, quirky verbiage, tone, cadence, dialogue style, character design, or any combination of these (and any other) characteristics.
(Optional) Element 2: Write your story including at least one sentient plant, animal, or inanimate object.
(Optional) Theme: Music.
There must be more.
There must be more, you tell yourself, swooping and bending and leaning as nature told you. You swing from side to side, growing as a way of moving. There’s effort and strain in this dance, but also dignity and beauty.
As an asexual being, that’s all you can hope for.
Finally, you find the pole, or the stick, planted on your same soil. The soil that gives you life. The soil that keeps you upright. And there’s beauty and dignity in your latching to it and growing in spirals like the time of a German Philosopher, but there must be more.
Nature didn’t tell you that, nor the man who waters your roots; but you know it. You know it from your stem to your blossoms.
And then, one day, true like the sunshine greening your leaves, you feel it. More. It’s in the air, and in the vibration on the table. It’s notes and rhythms. And though nature didn’t tell you that, you swing and swoop and bend.
Away from the stick.
Towards the music.
There must be more.
